Additional Information
It's the most wonderful time of the year...no, I'm not talking about Christmas, but about SHARE's
Annual YMCA Book Fair Fundraiser!!!!! (yahoo, cheers, whoopee, can't wait!)
Please read the following note that is very important—kind of long, but very important......
The YMCA Book Fair is coming up soon, and I need you all to think about how you can volunteer and earn some money for SHARE and log some great community service hours at the same time. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Please, please, please consider picking a day (or days!!!) when you can help.
In fact, I have a challenge for you! SHARE does very few fundraisers, but they are one of the reasons that we can keep event costs down, scholarship members who cannot pay due to job loss, etc., keep things like our lending libraries running and much more. Our average donation from the YMCA for having lots of great volunteers is about $2,500.00!!!!!
My question to you is: CAN WE DO IT AGAIN????????? I sure hope so! Not only is it a great help to SHARE, but what a testimony to the power of homeschooling!!!!!
So…………………………………..
Below is an outline of the dates and type of jobs available. Please, please consider giving a few hours of your time. Then you just have to make sure to sign the Volunteer Book so that SHARE gets the credit. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CALENDARS AND LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU THINK YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP. IF YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR DAY AT THE LAST MINUTE, NO PROBLEM. THE IMPORTANT PART IS THAT YOU COME AT SOME POINT, WORK HARD, AND DON’T FORGET TO LOG YOUR HOURS FOR S.H.A.R.E. IN THEIR VOLUNTEER BOOK!!!
TIMES TO VOLUNTEER:
Tuesday, August 12, starting at 8:30 a.m. - My hope is that many of you strong boys and men will be able to come on Tuesday, August 12 starting at 8:30 a.m, in order to help set up the tables. (We are known for having the best workers on this day, but I’m afraid that we have lost many of them due to graduation—Davey Matt, I’m thinking of you! Once the tables are set up, the YMCA has 4 trailers of boxes of books to put on those tables by category. This night goes till 9 p.m. and you can come to volunteer any time that day or night.
Wednesday, August 13, from 9 am to 5 pm. - I am also looking for another crew to join Jesse & me on Wednesday, August 13th from 9am to 5pm in order to unload the remaining boxes out of the trailers and deliver them to the tables. Once that is done, the job of taking the books out of the boxes and putting them on the tables is a much lighter job and can be done by moms and younger children.
NOTE: The Y will feed you well. In the past they have a room with sub sandwiches, fruit, chips, cookies, soda & water. I know they will again. By the way, the Kennedy Recreation Center is air-conditioned!!!!
WHERE:
This all takes place at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 6050 Wells Road. 63128. If you cannot work August 12 or 13, please know that your help is needed and appreciated any day. Actually, Mrs. Redmond is especially needing some volunteers this year during the event as well as for setting up:
Tuesday --half price day
Wednesday--box day, especially during the day
Thursday --move out day
*****If you can volunteer more than once, that is really wonderful! They add up all of our hours to determine how much money we deserve, so the more hours we have, the better. But I promised Debbie Redmond I would do my best to have an awesome crew the first two days of preparation—she is most worried about that. Also, I would be happy to write a letter of recommendation about your community service if anyone needs it—that looks great on a college resume!!!!
Thank you soooooooooo much and I hope to hear from an army of you soon!!! Just send me your name (or students’ names) and when you will be there. Let’s show the power of homeschoolers!!!!! If you are unable to give above the $15 membership fee, and are unable to ever stay and clean up at events, or plan field trips or do other things for our support group, this is a chance for you to give back to SHARE and....it's a win-win-win situation--not only does SHARE benefit, but the YMCA is blessed and you are giving your children the opportunity to reach out to others and serve their community-- plus it's kind of fun! What a deal! And what better event for homeschoolers to be associated with than a book fair!!!!!
Thanks again and Blessings,
Cathy (and Kerrie too!)
P.S. BTW, Older kids can be dropped off as long as you can trust them to work hard and be nice. The YMCA has a room set up where food has been donated, so they will be able to eat a nice free lunch (sandwiches, chips, fruit, granola bars, etc. Soda and water too.) Most of the kids who volunteer ask to come back again next year because they actually had fun doing it. Right Davey Matt???????
P.S.S. I am asking for a sign-up because Mrs. Redmond would like to know how many workers we are committing so that she knows she has it covered. If you are unsure of your schedule and can’t commit right now, but then you find that your schedule opens up, just come to the Book Fair, SIGN THE BOOK, and find someone to tell you what to do! It’s just that easy! Oh! And try not to ooooh and ahhhh over every book you handle (like I do!!!! Ha-Ha! We homeschoolers do love books, don’t we?????)
Here’s a recap of the schedule that you can choose from. Come when you can but be sure to SIGN THE BOOK!!!!!!
